GE Transportation Marks Critical Milestone with Digitization of 10,000 Locomotives(NYSE:GE) GE Transportation is marking critical milestones at the 2017 Minds + Machines - GE's Industrial Internet conference - with 10,000 Trip Optimizer units ordered and 10,000 GoLINC modules delivered. The flagship offerings are part of GE Transportation's suite of digital solutions intended to enable a digital freight rail ecosystem worldwide. The GoLINC™ Platform is an onboard computing platform that effectively turns a locomotive into a mobile data center by collecting and processing information from sensors both on and off the train. It brings un-paralleled integration and functionality to the cab of a locomotive by enabling the implementation of GE's full suite of digital solutions. GoLINC interfaces with both locomotive and third-party systems to make data available, and features onboard wireless capability for easier data transfer, resulting in enhanced communication and improved productivity. The delivery of 10,000 GoLINC modules indicates that this approach to open standard specificatins is being increasingly accepted and adopted by railroads around the world. It is currently used by all Class I railroads in North America, as well as by freight railroads in Australia and South America. Trip Optimizer, a smart, automated cruise control system that works through GoLINC, ingests data about a train's route and load to make an optimally fuel-efficient plan. The solution is used by all Class I railroads in North America, as well as customers in South America, Africa, Asia and Australia. It has helped these customers save more than 146 million gallons of fuel and surpass a record 256 million miles in auto control mode. Broken down, those numbers translate to 900,000 gallons of fuel saved and 1.6 million miles in auto control mode each week, which is the equivalent of taking 100,000 cars off the road or eliminating 10,000 tons of CO2 weekly.
