Chicago Rallies with Hyde Park Community to Vote Online, Restore 124-Year Old Historic Architecture and Break a World RecordCHICAGO, Oct. 17, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- CEI Media Group has joined the efforts of the Hyde Park Historical Society and the Hyde Park Chamber of Commerce to preserve a key piece of Chicago's history while also setting a new world record. The organizations have teamed up to become one of the finalists for a Partners in Preservation grant to restore the Hyde Park cable car building, one of the last historical symbols of the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition held in Chicago. The Hyde Park cable car building is the last station that survived Chicago's cable car era (1882-1906). The building was rescued by the Hyde Park Historical Society in 1977 and first renovated in 1980 to be used as a museum and exhibition space hosting public meetings and special events. Today, the building remains inconspicuously nestled below Metra train lines at the fringe of Downtown Hyde Park, less than half a mile from the University of Chicago's campus and walking distance from the site of the future Obama Presidential Center. The Hyde Park Historical Society is seeking funding to restore the 124-year old prperty as a treasured attraction for educators and visitors alike. Funds will be used for both interior and exterior preservation. To date the restoration efforts have been funded through donations from neighbors and local contractors. The Hyde Park cable car building is currently one of the Partners in Preservation: Main Streets top 25 semi-finalists, and represents the only semi-finalist from the state of Illinois. To become a finalist, the project needs the local area public support. Supporters have until October 31st to cast up to five (5) votes per day on the VoteYourMainStreet.org website. On Sunday, October 22, the Hyde Park community will raise awareness about the restoration project and also make an official attempt to enter the Guinness Book of World Records with one single group photo. Interested history-makers are invited to arrive at 1:00 pm sharp at the Hyde Park cable car building, 5529 South Lake Park Avenue.
