Canadian TV stars, producers and digital media creators come to Ottawa


Canada Media Fund showcases Canadian talent and content on Parliament Hill

OTTAWA, Sept. 27, 2017 /CNW/ - The Canada Media Fund (CMF) hosted today a showcase event on Parliament Hill celebrating the success of Canadian TV and digital media. The event brought together parliamentarians of all stripes; the on-and off-screen talent behind several Canadian productions; as well as broadcasters, audiovisual industry leaders and members of the public service.

Guests were invited to interact with producers, creators and on-screen talent who tell our stories to the world, including Allan Hawco (Frontier, Caught); Gary Vandenheuvel and Collin Vandenheuvel (Heavy Rescue 401); Jean Yoon, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, Andrew Phung, Andrea Bang and Simu Liu (Kim's Convenience); Brittany LeBorgne, Heather White, and Maika Harper (Mohawk Girls); Helene Joy (Murdoch Mysteries); Kevin Hanchard (Orphan Black); Cindy Sampson and Samantha Wan (Private Eyes); and Kris Holden-Reid (Vikings).



French language productions include, Marie-Ève Beaulieu and Maxime Mailloux (Faits Divers); Marc-André Grondin and Sophie Desmarais (L'Imposteur); Kim Despatis, Sonia Vachon and Maxime Côté-Le Flaguais (Les Pays d'en haut); and Sébastien Ricard, Emilie Bibeau and Evelyne Rompré (Olivier). 

Interactive stations featured award-winning video games Jotun and We Happy Few; a unique holographic experience, Maya Kodes; and an innovative, sci-fi virtual reality series, Trinity, also gave guests the opportunity to experience high-quality digital media productions developed by Canadian creators.


"This event presents an opportunity for the elected representatives from across Canada to meet the stellar talent on- and off-screen of some of Canada's most successful television, digital and interactive productions," stated Valerie Creighton, President and CEO of the Canada Media Fund. "As we look to support Canadian storytellers in new and inspiring ways, we recognize and thank the Government of Canada for its commitment to our country's dynamic arts and culture sector."
