(ISC)2 Names John McCumber Director of Cybersecurity AdvocacyCLEARWATER, Fla., Sept. 25, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- (ISC)² – the world's largest nonprofit membership association of certified cybersecurity professionals – today announced the appointment of John McCumber as director of cybersecurity advocacy for North America. McCumber will be responsible for facilitating relationships with corporations, government agencies, academic institutions and others to encourage public/private sector collaboration, stronger cybersecurity curriculum and effective legislation to attract and enable the professionals necessary to solve the region's most critical security issues. "John's rare blend of industry expertise, practitioner knowledge and academic experience is a strong addition to the (ISC)² leadership team," said (ISC)² CEO David Shearer, CISSP. "He will be a strong advocate for the security profession and our membership. Based in the organization's Alexandria, VA., office, McCumber will report to (ISC)2 Regional Managing Director for North America, Brian Correia. McCumber has more than 25 years of experience in cybersecurity operations, technology design and strategic consulting. His experience includes developing corporate and government cybersecurity policy, and he has extensive experience working with and advising leading security technology developers and integrators. Most recently, McCumber was director in the Security and Risk Management consulting practice at Gartner. He was responsible for developing security assessments and guidance to enable state and local government organizations to adopt more proactive security postures, as well as influencing new cybersecurity legislation. He was also chairman of the TechAmerica Cybersecurity Committee. McCumber is a retired U.S. Air Force officer and former Cryptologic Fellow of the National Security Agency. He earned a master's degree in business administration from Western New England University and a bachelor's degree from Wayland Baptist University. McCumber is also a textbook author, technology columnist and educator. He has taught graduate courses as adjunct faculty for The George Washington University, Eastern Michigan University and the Defense Intelligence College.
