The Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific Elects to Expand Its EHR

HERNDON, Va., Sept. 7, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific in Honolulu, Hawaii, a 20-year client of Harris Healthcare and nine-year client of Harris Healthcare's Electronic Health Record (EHR), has elected to upgrade and expand its systems and services with Harris Healthcare.

The Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific (REHAB) will keep QCPR, Harris Healthcare's EHR, in place with upgrades to Harris Healthcare's latest platform, and expand its use to ambulatory clinical areas. REHAB is:

  • Upgrading to QCPR 6.2, which includes Harris Healthcare's Novus ClinDoc application and Novus Meds (when it becomes available later this fall). This EHR platform includes advanced medication reconciliation, improved clinician interface and usability, and meets all Meaningful Use requirements.
  • Adding Harris Healthcare's Media Manager module. This application will allow REHAB to view multimedia files in a patient's EHR, and will provide (secure) enterprise-wide access to these files. This is a time saver for physicians, reduces overall costs for REHAB, and is proven to aid in improving patient outcomes.
  • Incorporating ePrescribing into the acute care and ambulatory care settings, providing new capabilities and streamlined medication management throughout the organization. Harris Healthcare has integrated the award-winning DrFirst® Rcopia and EPCS Gold products into its medication management module, allowing REHAB to leverage each company's expertise.

These changes will bring communication, access, and ease-of-use to one accord, improving patient safety and physician satisfaction throughout the organization. Colbert Seto, Chief Information Officer at REHAB, explains, "Our current multiple-EHR environment does not support our continuum of care well. It brings unnecessary complexity int our environment. We wanted to support a single tool across our care continuum to simplify our environment and leverage the strength of a single EHR. Making these changes with Harris Healthcare to standardize the tool our clinicians use will improve the quality of our patient care."

The acute care EHR market is mature, with little activity. However, low physician satisfaction is a primary detractor across all major EHRs, and often a key trigger in an organization's decision to evaluate the current market. At any given time, only 10-15% of hospitals are actively evaluating and willing to participate in an EHR transition—and then, only if they find the features, functionality, time investment and expense worthwhile. REHAB was one of these hospitals evaluating a transition to a new EHR—with an eye toward physician satisfaction.

"Despite being an EHR client for nearly 10 years, The Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific was not on our current platform. We knew we could serve them better," says Santina Allen, Executive Vice President, Harris Healthcare, Clinical Solutions. "Their evaluation process offered us the opportunity to engage at a higher level and share some of the features we've added that are geared toward the physician." After extensive consideration, REHAB selected the innovative features and ease of use of Harris Healthcare's EHR over other leading EHRs in the market.
