PRIUM's Mark Pew to Speak Twice at WCI's Workers' Compensation Educational Conference

Mark Pew (News - Alert), senior vice president of PRIUM, will speak twice at the Workers' Compensation Institute's 72ndĀ Annual Workers' Compensation Educational Conference.

Pew will participate in "The 360 View of Managing Opioid Weaning" panel starting at 2 p.m. on August 7 in Grand Ballroom 8A as part of the "National Work Comp Review Day 1" track. He will join Mel Pohl, MD, Chief Medical Officer of the Las Vegas Recovery Center, and Bill Zachry, a senior fellow of the Sedgwick Institute who was previously responsible for risk management at Safeway/Albertsons, in an interactive discussion of the challenges involved in weaning injured workers from dangerous polypharmacy regimens that include opioids. The panel will share insights seen through the eyes of a physician who also happens to have chronic pain and an employer.

"The injured worker needs to know when the drug regimen is causing more harm than good," Pew said. "And, payers need to understand why they're being asked to authorize yoga, mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy, and bofeedback."

Pew will also present "Implications of Marijuana Legalization and Opioid Use to the Workplace and the Workers' Compensation System" starting at 8:45 a.m. on August 9 in Grand Ballroom 7A as part of the "Breakout on Multi-State Work Comp Laws" track. The presentation explores the comparative relationship between opioids and medical cannabis and its growing acceptance as reimbursable treatment within workers' compensation systems.

Presented by the Workers' Compensation Institute, WCEC will be held August 6 through 9 at the Orlando World Center Marriott. Please see https://www.wci360.com/conference for more information.
