Mölnlycke® Strengthens Patient Bathing Offering with the New HIBI® Universal Bathing System

The patient bed bath has been a vital part of any hospital stay since Florence Nightingale revolutionized nursing. This daily bath is therapeutic: it not only provides a sense of normalcy for patients, but it provides time for healthcare workers to connect with patients, observe the skin, promote healing through massage and range of motion exercises, and evaluate the use of devices such as catheters1. The workload of the modern nurse has increased dramatically, leading to shortcuts that may not be in the best interest of the patient2.

Mölnlycke Health Care understands the power of the traditional bed bath, particularly its role in infection prevention, and has recognized the need for an easier way to administer this bath. We are pleased to announce the launch of our new HIBI Universal Bathing System, a combination of 10 large, gentle disposable cloths within a package that acts as a single-use bath basin. This simple innovation addresses several customer needs:

  • Eliminates the need for reusable basins, a recognized reservoir for pathogens that can cause healthcare-associated infections3.
  • Reduces the laundering of hospitals linens, particularly the abrasive washcloths often used for the daily bath.
  • Improves the convenience of the traditional bathing process by combining the needed materials and allowing greater control for the user.
  • Enables washing and rinsing of the skin with a skin cleanser and water, an important function of the bath that is often lost with the proliferation of hospital wpes.

Al Concemi, the Vice President of Surgical Marketing, adds, "We have listened to our customers and to their patients. There was a clear need to improve the daily bed bath, and we are delivering an incredible product with the new HIBI Universal Bathing System. Patients no longer have to endure rough linens or the tacky residue associated with wipes. And with our convenient solution, nurses can be proud of the care that they provide, a level of care that their patients deserve."
