Syniverse and New Context Partner to Solve Industrial Internet Security Challenges

Syniverse and New Context today announced a technology partnership that will enable the companies to address the most challenging industrial internet security challenges faced by the world's largest automotive, energy and manufacturing companies.

"Persistent cyber-attacks are ever-present and growing challenges that vary widely and include denial of service, malware, insider threats, man-in-the-middle attacks and more," said Tim Moss, Chief Operating Officer, Syniverse (News - Alert). "Our partnership with New Context will directly address these challenges by enabling New Context to offer its customers authentication and attribution for every human and device operating within the New Context infrastructure. Making this possible will be Syniverse's global, reliable and secure platform that will ensure unrivaled secure connectivity as well as compliance with industry and government regulations."

The number of IoT (internet of things) connections globally is forecast to more than double from roughly 10 billion in 2015 to 23 billion in 2020, according to the GSM Association, and a substantial portion of those connections include industrial platforms. At the same time, while 96 percent of IT professionals surveyed said they expect to see an increase in security attacks in industrial IoT (IIoT) in the coming year, 51 percent said they are not prepared for malicious campaigns that exploit or misuse the IIoT, according to a 2017 study by Tripwire (News - Alert) and Dimensional Research.

As IIoT grows, businesses must be able to protect critical infrastructure from cyberattacks by guaranteeing attribution and authentication of all devices and people on their networks.

"Businesses need to invest in building their applications and devices within attributed environments, so those businesses can focus on innovation, rather than reacting to increasingly complex cybersecurity threats," said Herb Kelsey, Chief Technology Officer, New Context, and previously Chief Architect for the United States National Security Agency.

"Secure, global, reliable mobile connectivity has been at the core of Syniverse's business for over 30 years, and its platform will allow us to offer our clients best-in-class, security and attributed messaging," Kelsey said.
