The top three emerging trends driving the global HEPA filters market according to Technavio energy research analysts are:

  • Penetration of HEPA filters in microelectronics industry
  • Development of filter medium for HEPA filters
  • Low initial cost

Penetration of HEPA filters in microelectronics industry

"Technology nodes in the semiconductor industry have crossed the 14-nm mark, with advanced semiconductor fabs being even smaller. Small nodes provide enhanced performance, which is attracting more customers to adopt these nanoscale devices," says Thanikachalam Chandrasekaran, a lead analyst at Technavio for power research.

In order to manufacture at the nanoscale, laboratories and facilities must be equipped with airborne molecular contamination (AMC). HEPA filters are the most commonly used, as they achieve maximum compliance with cleanroom air quality standards.

Development of filter medium for HEPA filters

HEPA filters contain a mixture of glass fibers along with the graduated diameters to provide maximum particle retention efficiency. Advanced HEPA filters contain a select few chemicals to aid the glass fibers to impart tensile strength, mildew resistance, and water repellence strength. Polycarbonate, polyvinyl chloride, and polystyrene are currently some of the emerging microfibers used in the manufacture of HEPA filters. These advances have provided renewed growth prospects to the global market.

Low initial cost

The global gas turbine market is growing steadily, driven by the rising need for energy and its relatively affordable nature. Gas turbines, mainly driven by natural gas, offer a clean power generation option.

"The growth of the gas turbine market and its emergence as a clean and reliable source of power is creating a demand for HEPA filters. This demand is expected to sustain the market in the short term," says Thanikachalam.
