Steve Case, Chris Lehane and FWD.us to Join Lawmakers at CTA Jobs Summit

Airbnb's Chris Lehane, FWD.us's Todd Schulte and Revolution's Steve Case will join Reps. Suzan DelBene (D-WA), Virginia Foxx (R-NC), Darrell Issa (R-CA (News - Alert)) and Seth Moulton (D-MA) at the Consumer Technology Association's (CTA) inaugural New American Jobs Summit next week. The summit - Wednesday, May 3 at the Hyatt Regency Capitol Hill in Washington, DC - will explore how government and the private sector can collaborate to develop a competitive workforce, create new high-wage jobs and foster economic growth in the face of rapid technological innovation, an aging population and increased global competition.

"I'm excited to talk with the policymakers and innovative leaders speaking at the New American Jobs Summit and learn more about their visions for the future of the American workforce," said Gary Shapiro (News - Alert), president and CEO, CTA. "Technology and automation are critical, but so are high-skilled workers. To build a strong U.S. economy with well-paying jobs, we must equip American workers with the skills companies need, so employees and employers can maximize their synergy with technology and help maintain our country's position as the world's innovation leader."

At the summit, CTA will unveil and discuss the results of its survey of tech sector executives on the future of American jobs. While half the executives say at least some of their company's job functions will be automated in the next five years, most respondents expect they'll need even more employees withtechnical skills or plan to hire more employees.

Dr. Linda Livingstone, the recently-named president of Baylor University, will also speak at the New American Jobs Summit, joining the panel discussion Classrooms to Corporations: Teaching the Next Generation of American Workers. Among the other business sector leaders taking part in the summit: Ty Ahmad-Taylor, CEO, THX Ltd.; Glenn DuBois, chancellor, Virginia's Community Colleges; Max Friefeld, CEO and co-founder, Voodoo Manufacturing; Bill Kamela, director, Workforce Policy, Microsoft (News - Alert) Corporation; and Brian Kelly, editor and chief content officer, U.S. News & World Report.

Summit sessions will include:

  • Filling "New Collar" Jobs: The Role of Community Colleges
  • Case Study: How Disruptive Technology is Creating Local Jobs
  • Merit-Based Immigration: Putting America First
