Orthopaedic Institute for Children's Ambulatory Surgery Center Achieves "Deemed Status" Accreditation From AAAHC and CMS

The Ambulatory Surgery Center at Orthopaedic Institute for Children (OIC) has achieved "Deemed Status" accreditation as the result of a recent combined survey by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Opened in 2016, the ASC (News - Alert) is the first center in Los Angeles designed and built exclusively to provide orthopaedic outpatient surgical care to children.

The new accreditation distinguishes the OIC center as an outpatient facility that provides the highest quality of care to patients, as determined by an independent, external process of evaluation. It also means that OIC has met nationally recognized standards for the provision of quality healthcare.

"Pursuing accreditation is part of our commitment to providing the highest levels of quality care and the same high level of quality in our business practices," said OIC President and Chief Executive Officer Anthony Scaduto, M.D. "Going through this rigorous process challenged us to find even better ways to serve our patients and is a very real reminder that our responsibility and mission is to continuusly enhance the clinical and service quality of care that we provide."

OIC's Ambulatory Surgery Center was designed to reduce orthopaedic surgery wait times while greatly enhancing quality outcomes and enriching the patient experience for children and their parents. The 13,000-square-foot center houses two expansive operating rooms and six pre- and post-surgical suites all in a brightly lit, child-friendly environment. It is staffed by physicians and other professionals specially trained to address the distinct needs of children.

"Every child deserves a chance for a healthy and happy life and that means providing the best possible care we can," said Dr. Scaduto. "That was our goal when we opened the ASC last year, and it remains our goal today - not just at the ASC but throughout all of our programs and services. It is wonderful to see the work and dedication of so many talented people rewarded through this latest accreditation."
