OLED Technology Lights The Way At Display Week 2017CAMPBELL, Calif., March 8, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The Society for Information Display (SID) today announced that its upcoming Display Week 2017 will feature a special emphasis on three decades of innovation and success in OLED technology. Heralded for its high performance, image quality and lifetime advantages, among other benefits, OLED technology has become a mainstream, ten billion-plus dollar industry, continuing to grow and expand in applications spanning across mobile devices and wearables to home theater, automotive and AR/VR and beyond. So, it's no surprise that leading companies and experts in the OLED space, including AUO, LG, JDI, Samsung and UDC, are just a few of the many expected to convene at the Los Angeles Convention Center from May 21-26 to present and showcase their latest advancements in the field. As part of this, SID is hosting an exclusive OLED event titled "Lighting the Way: Celebrating 30 Years of OLED" on Tuesday, May 23rd, to highlight the dynamic history of this technology, from its early R&D days to its evolution as a major force in the display industry. Dozens of sessions and speakers from across industry and academia will be presenting on their latest OLED innovations and what's in store for the future of this technology during Display Week's technical symposium and other events transpiring simultaneously during the week, including the annual Business Track (co-produced with Display Supply Chain Consultants). To boot, a significant number of exhibitors will be featuring their latest advances across the OLED ecosystem, from R&D to materials, to manufacturing and end-user applications. With respect to the OLED special session, attendees will be able to learn more about the history of this exciting technology, and future roadmap, with a look at the 1987 paper that started it all from OLED pioneers, Ching Tang and Steve van Slyke. "In many ways this paper is responsible for changing several paradigms ? specifically, the way we think about display and lighting," said Dr. Takatoshi Tsujimura, board director for SID. "High-performance organic electronic devices have been proven to be possible by virtue of this emergent industry. Today we are on the cusp of seeing foldable and flexible mobile displays for both traditional modalities and new ones such as AR/VR. Further, new forms for lighting are enabled by OLED and the improved manufacturing methods being developed by many of the companies and experts gathered at Display Week." More information on the LED sessions/papers being presented at Display Week, or the companies exhibiting, can be found at www.displayweek.org. Those interested in attending the OLED Anniversary event can look forward to hearing from a number of OLED pioneers and experts, including:
