HBX Launches Managing Your Career Development, First Program Offered via HBX Live Virtual Classroom

BOSTON, March 1, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- HBX, Harvard Business School's digital learning initiative, is launching Managing Your Career Development, a seven-session program offered via HBX Live that will teach skills to deliberately and productively manage a dynamic career.

Formerly a pilot program available only to those participants who completed HBX CORe, this is the first time Managing Your Career Development will be offered to a general audience. The sessions will be held via HBX Live, a virtual classroom that provides opportunities for real-time interaction between participants from around the world and Harvard Business School faculty experts.

"At Harvard Business School, we equip our students by providing a realistic preview of the actions required to seize new opportunities and surmount unforeseen challenges in their careers—paying particular attention to early- and mid-career choice and dilemmas," said Faculty Chair Ethan Bernstein. "Managing Your Career Development allows us to utilize exciting new technologies to expand our reach and assist a worldwide cohort of like-minded individuals to develop answers to questions of career design, progression, and transition."

As career paths have evolved and become more fluid, it is essential for individuals to pay particular attention to early- and mid-career choices. Participants in Managing Your Career Development will explore how leaders in different positions, industries, and stages of their careers have successfully – and unsuccessfully – navigated their own paths. Tgether with a global cohort of peers, they will explore key topics of career management including negotiation, design thinking, and personal branding. The course is designed to have a profound impact on the ability to identify and secure satisfying career opportunities.

All program sessions are taught employing the Harvard Business School case study method. Participating faculty include the program's Faculty Chair Ethan Bernstein, Alison Wood Brooks, Anita Elberse, Ryan Rafaelli, Scott Snook, and Ariel Stern.

"The difference between knowing and doing is monumental when it comes to managing a career," said HBX Executive Director Patrick Mullane. "By providing participants with realistic examples of challenges they may face, teaching them a specific set of key skills, and helping them to become more entrepreneurial in developing their talents, we are confident participants will go on to manage a satisfying career that excites and motivates them to make a difference."

Applications for the May 2017 cohort of Managing Your Career Development are currently open. The program is targeted to individuals in the early stages of their career with fewer than ten years of work experience who are looking to acquire the skills to successfully navigate a meaningful career path. To best accommodate participants joining us from international time zones, two cohorts will be offered at different times of day. Managing Your Career Development is priced at $900 and the deadline to apply is April 25, 2017. Visit the HBX website to learn more.
