More than 250 students will join Sen. Tim Scott, Rep. Luke Messer, and House Education and the Workforce Committee Chairwoman Rep. Virginia Foxx at a rally for school choice at the U.S. Capitol.

The event will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2017 in the Capitol Visitors Center auditorium and atrium. Speakers include House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI), Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), Rep. Luke Messer (R-IN) and Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC), the House Education and the Workforce Committee chairwoman.

Malik Washington, who attends Archbishop Carroll High School with a D.C. Opportunity Scholarship, will lead the Pledge of Allegiance (News - Alert) and deliver remarks. The event is sponsored by the Congressional School Choice Caucus and is designed to raise awareness of the importance of expanding education options for children across the country

"School Choice Week is about sharing the stories and successes of America's kids. All across our country, students benefit from access to innovative charter, online, private, home and public school options," said Rep. Luke Messer, chair of the Congressional School Choice Caucus. "This diversity, flexibility and choice in educatin should be celebrated and available to all families regardless of income or zip code. We cannot rest until every child has access to a quality education."

"I truly believe that a quality education is the closest thing to magic. It can help our youth realize that no matter where they start in life, they can learn their way to a brighter future," said Sen. Tim Scott. "I also know that when our students and families have more options, they will have more opportunities to achieve success. To me, school choice does not diminish one form of education over another, but it seeks to offer our youth the chance to find an education track that best fits their individual needs. Every student in our country, across every zip code deserves to have access to a quality education that helps them create a path to the American Dream."
