Australia Telecommunications Report Q4 2016

LONDON, Dec. 19, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Includes 3 FREE quarterly updates

We have made some minor forecast revisions to the Australian mobile sector forecasts in the latest Q416 report update to account for market data from H116. Our core view nevertheless remains unchanged as we are of the opinion that 3G/4G uptake will intensify further, thus driving a mature mobile market where new organic subscriber growth is limited. Looking ahead, the mobile market growth will derive from migrating existing subscribers onto high-value, advanced data and premium packages. Telecom operators are aggressively marketing their 4G LTE services and we believe that converged services and data plans will be crucial to future revenue growth.

- We estimate 32.063mn mobile subscribrs at the end of Q216, with Telstra continuing to dominate the market with a share of 53.7%.

- The NBN has a monopoly on advanced fixed broadband technologies but uptake remains low, with 600,000 customers compared with over 5mn for DSL and 6mn for dedicated mobile broadband.
