TELUS wins big at CPA Canada's Awards of Excellence in Corporate Reporting

TORONTO, Dec. 7, 2016 /CNW/ - TELUS received the top honour amid multiple wins at the Awards of Excellence in Corporate Reporting, presented annually by Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA Canada).

TELUS is a traditional powerhouse at the awards, regularly receiving recognition from the judges in numerous categories and has now received the Overall Award of Excellence in Corporate Reporting seven times in the past nine years.

In presenting the awards, CPA Canada recognizes the important role high quality reporting plays within the Canadian economy and in the stability of the global financial system. The information contained in corporate reports can drive key investment and business decisions. CPA Canada's ultimate objective with the awards program is to continually improve the quality of corporate reporting practices in Canada.

"Congratulations to TELUS for yet another strong showing," says Joy Thomas, president and CEO, CPA Canada. "The effort clearly demonstrates that top performers do not rest on their laurels. Moving the bar higher each year requires dedication and perseverance."

In addition to earning the top honour, TELUS also captured the industry sector award for Communications and Media and won in the Corporate Governance Disclosure category.

"To be recognized by CPA Canada is a reflection of the TELUS culture and our focus to provide accurate, transparent and useful information for investors and other stakeholders," says Doug French, executive vice-president and chief financial officer, TELUS. "It is a tremendous honour and further strengthens our team's commitment to continuous improvement."

Goldcorp, last year's winner of the Overall Award, received two honours winning in the mining category and also receiving the Award of Excellence in Sustainability Reporting.

Four other companies received multiple honours: Suncor Energy Inc., Intact Financial Corporation, WSPGlobal Inc. and Enbridge Inc. A complete list of winners is below.

In total, 20 awards were presented to winners from both the corporate and public sectors at a gala event in Toronto, Ontario. Each program participant receives a confidential assessment of its reporting materials to help the organization improve year over year.

"Thank you to all the organizations that entered this year's competition," adds Thomas.  "Your commitment to continual improvement is recognized and valued."
