Bel Air Internet Donates Internet to Hustle N' Code Hackathon for South LA Youth

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Bel Air Internet, a California-based communications provider donated their Pop Up Temporary Internet service to the Hustle N' Code Hackathon at the South Park Recreation Center on Saturday, December 3.

Bel Air Internet mentors teach programming to South L.A. youths

Hosted annually by Teens Exploring Technology (TXT), the day-long Hackathon provides low-income students with critical exposure to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM).

Hundreds of students from low-income neighborhoods in Los Angeles attended the event to learn how to code and build apps that address community problems--such as homelessness and hunger--with the help of Bel Air Internet volunteers and other tech industry designers and programmers.

"The Hustle N' Code Hackathon would not be possible without high speed Internet. With their generous donation, Bel Air Internet is helping to make both our Hackathon and our students' dreams a reality, said TXT Founder and CEO Oscar Menjivar.

LA Mayor Eric Garcetti attended the event, kicking it off with a speech to the participating children, in which he offered them future internships and jobs within the city government and with participating companies.  In addition to Bel Air Internet, companies such as Google and Snapchat served as sponsors for the event.

"We are honored to once again support innovation and STEM education in South Los Angeles," said Bel Air Internet President Terry Koosed. "We loved watching what the young innovators and entrepreneurs at Hustle N' Code created during the Hackathon and can't wait to see where these skills take them into the future."
