GEICO presents its 24th Annual Volunteer Service Awards recipients Naomi Chatterton and Russell Santamarina with $1,000 checks to benefit a charity of their choice. (Photo: Business Wire) GEICO recently announced that Naomi Chatterton of Warner Robins, Ga., and Russell Santamarina of Macon, Ga., are winners of the 24th Annual GEICO Volunteer Service Awards for their leadership and contributions to serving the Macon community. Naomi Chatterton Chatterton, a senior employment specialist, was presented with the John Thorne Corporate Community Citizens (GCCC) Award for her service to numerous organizations including Special Olympics Georgia, Rebuilding Macon, and Meals on Wheels of Middle Georgia. Every year, she leads the region's donation drive to support Meals on Wheels by helping deliver nutritious meals to seniors and disabled individuals, who want to maintain independent and dignified lives. At an early age, Chatterton witnessed volunteers visit her neighborhood to provide hot meals and host fun activities for the children. "To those volunteers we weren't just another statistic," she said. "We owe it to society to give back to our communities. We have to show others that there's still more good in the world." Russell Santamarina Santamarina, a claims service trainer, was named the GEICO Volunteer of the Year for his work with the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Georgia, having contributed more than 2,000 hours of service as weekend manager at the House. Santamarina helps maintain a home-like and supportive environment for resident families of seriously ill and critically-injured children being treated at Macon-area hospitals. He also helps raise money and awareness as chair for the Ronald McDonald House Committee at the regional office. Santamarina says his family's firsthand experience is what motivated him to get involved. Following the birth of his first child, he and his wife stayed at the House while his son spent 21 days in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). "Today, I bring my now family of six to volunteer with me at the House," he said "It's extremely rewarding to provide comfort to other families and give back to an organization that was such a blessing to mine." "Naomi and Russell are a true inspiration to others who want to uplift their communities through service," said Rynthia Rost, GEICO's vice president of public affairs. "We are fortunate to have them as a part of the GEICO team. Their leadership and commitment to the Macon community make them incredibly deserving of these awards."
