The report categorizes the 3D CAD market in Eastern Europe market into four major end-user segments. They are:

  • Automotive industry
  • Industrial machinery industry
  • Aerospace and defense industry
  • Others

Automotive industry

According to Ishmeet Kaur, a lead analyst at Technavio for product lifecycle management research, "3D CAD solutions are mainly used for R&D in the automotive industry. Apart from Russia and Turkey, Chechia and Slovakia are also major players in the automobile industry." These countries are focused on exporting manufactured vehicles since the domestic demand is less compared with the production volumes. Due to the high levels of export, especially to Western Europe, the Eastern Europe manufacturing units are highly dependent on the automotive industry in Western Europe. The demand for quality products among end-users in North America is significantly high as consumers focus on the quality of their vehicles rather than the brand value. 3D CAD software plays a major role in ensuring the quality of manufacturing for ach part. Therefore, Technavio expects an increased purchase of CAD software, as consumer-driven R&D continues to gain momentum.

For instance, Rimac Automobili specializes in manufacturing sports cars (mainly concept models) with futuristic designs. Rimac Automobili is involved in complete car manufacturing processes including design, engineering, electronics, motors, battery packs, and infotainment. The company uses 3D and 2D CAD software for all its design requirements.

Aerospace and defense industry

The Russian and Turkish aerospace and defense industries will be the major end-users of 3D CAD solutions during the forecast period. In 2014, the Russian government decided to invest USD 28 billion in the aviation industry to make Russia one of the top three aircraft manufacturers in the world by 2025. The demand for 3D CAD software has increased due to this since more amount was invested in R&D activities of aircraft designing.

Turkey has a well-developed R&D, which has helped the country to manufacture satellites, helicopters, training aircrafts, armored vehicles, missiles, unmanned air vehicles, and rocket systems. The Turkish defense sector has also developed simulation software and has taken part in projects including the R&D of aircrafts such as F35 by Lockheed Martin (News - Alert) and A400M by Airbus.

Industrial machinery industry

Industrial machinery industry is a dynamic industry that witnesses frequent changes in technology, infrastructure, methods of production, and cost of production. Industry 4.0 is an initiative led by the German government and is often considered the fourth industrial revolution. After Industry 4.0 standard was introduced, manufacturing became decentralized, which obligated several technological requirements such as integrating manufacturing processes with IT features such as IoT and cyber-physical systems.

"Industrial machinery manufacturers have already started providing CAD data conforming to Industry 4.0," says Ishmeet. For instance, in May 2016, the Turkish government decided to put more focus on Industry 4.0 and jump from the present middle-level industrial sector to high-income generating sector. The major focus on the implementation of Industry 4.0 is for SMEs in the country.

Others

The major players in the others sector include the electrical and electronics industry and consumer packaged goods (CPG) industry. Turkey is a major player in the electronics industry in Eastern Europe. The country manufactures and exports telecommunication equipment and consumer electronics devices, which use 3D CAD for modeling and reducing prototypes.

Eastern Europe is a major player in the packaging sector, a part of the CPG industry. While Europe had a growth of nearly 1%-2% in 2014-2015 for the flexible packaging sector, Poland had a growth of more than 4.5%. In addition, countries such as Turkey, Romania, and Chechia had a higher growth rate in the packaging sector compared with the growth of entire Europe. Designing and modeling of packaging is a major use of 3D CAD in Eastern Europe.

The top vendors highlighted by Technavio's ICT research analysts in this report are:

  • Autodesk
  • Dassault Systèmes (News - Alert)
  • PTC
  • Siemens PLM Software
