Best-Selling Author and IT Expert Gary Beach Hosts Continuum Webinar on Growing IT TalentContinuum®, the only channel-exclusive IT management platform company, is hosting the live webinar, "How to Close the Technology Skills Gap by Growing IT Talent," on Thursday, November 10, 2016, with special guest, Gary Beach, author, columnist and information technology expert. Gary has more than 30 years of experience and has authored the best-selling book, "The U.S. Technology Skills Gap," critically acclaimed for being the best contextual history of STEM education written. Peter Melby, President of Greystone Technology Group and Continuum MSP partner, is joining the discussion, sharing employee engagement, growth and retention strategies that have helped his company average 40 percent annual growth for the past 13 years.
With STEM on a slow, linear decline in the U.S., the shortage of qualified labor has been challenging for MSPs. According to a recent study conducted by IT staffing firm TEKsystems, 78 percent of IT managers and 80 percent of IT pros experience difficulty finding qualified candidates, resulting in a longer hiring and onboarding process. With a career that spans more than three decades in the IT media business, Gary Beach discusses how to close the IT skills gap. Along with Peter Melby, Gary discusses what technical skills are most in demand, what "soft" skills are needed and tips on identifying and growing IT talent. Peter Melby specifically shares tactics that have worked at his company. "Employee turnover tends to be high for MSPs, and in order to increase productivity and profitability, they need to understand how to engage staff and guide employees in their professional development," said Gary Beach. "Employers should understand how to effectively find, engage, grow and retain IT talent, especially within the millennial cohort, and this webinar delivers the strategies to help MSPs grow their business through employee retention." Gary Beach has held executive posts at McGraw-Hill's Data Communications, the world's first digital networking magazine and at International Data Group where he was publisher of Network World (News - Alert), Computerworld and CIO Magazine. He contributed technology commentaries to National Public Radio's "All Things Considered" and "Morning Edition" programs and appeared regularly for a decade on CNBC's "Squawk Box (News - Alert)," "Squawk on the Street" and "The Closing Bell" where he spoke about technology investment and acquisition trends. Gary is a columnist for The Wall Street Journal where he writes regularly on the topic of technology talent. He serves as an advisor to the Massachusetts High Technology Council, ReacHire, a non-profit focused on second-career opportunities for women and Year-Up, a non-profit dedicated to creating IT job opportunities for inner city young people. Recently, Gary began work on, "The Skills Gap Almanac," which appears on the Twitter (News - Alert) platform, and he partners monthly with Oklahoma State University's Institute of Technology to publish the "Skills Gap Misery Index" which measures the pain caused by the skills gap. Peter Melby has been President of Denver-based Greystone Technology, a technology service company with more than 75 team members, since 2003. He presented, "How to Find and Keep a Talented Technical Staff," at Navigate 2016, Continuum's third annual user conference that took place on September 28-30, 2016 in Boston.
