AeroFS Joins With Tech Companies to Make Election Day A Holiday

With one of the lowest voter turnouts of any country, the U.S. is considered a laggard in getting its citizens into the voting booth on election day. Based on the estimated voting-age population, the U.S. ranks 31st out of 35 countries that comprise the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) [1]. One proposal to improve that statistic is to declare election day a national holiday. Because that would require an act of Congress, it's unlikely to happen for several election cycles. In the meantime, a group of tech entrepreneurs is moving ahead to encourage their employees to vote by making November 8 a company holiday.

One of those entrepreneurs is Yuri Sagalov, co-founder and CEO of collaboration software startup AeroFS/Amium, based in Palo Alto (News - Alert). Yuri's blog posting about this issue can be found at tinyur.com/z27mw37.
