The industrial solutions multinational has solidified 100 MW in energy storage projects for the European photovoltaic (PV) and BESS markets

The new offices will offer sales and customer support, in addition to operations and maintenance for projects being carried out in the region.

The E.ON project, in which Nidec ASI will supply a 10-MW battery energy storage system for Enhanced Frequency Response (EFR) Service to National Grid, is expected to break ground by the end of the year.

Nidec ASI is seeing significant business growth in Europe's PV and BESS markets. In the last year alone, the industrial solutions leader has been awarded energy storage projects in the region totaling 100 MW, and this contract comes on the tails of another important order through the company's French Operations for an important project in Japan for a combined PV and BESS plant, where Nidec ASI is supporting Advantec in the supply and installment of a solar power plant of 6MWp, providing four power conversion systems and Energy Storage System (ESS) containers for a total capacity of 6 MW and 6 MWh.

"The opening of our new office in London is part of our strategy to expand our presence in Europe," said Kaila Haines, Director of Marketing and Public Relations at Nidec ASI. "We are extremely proud of the fact that the inverter technology, which is the basic building block of these solutions, is manufactured here in Italy (the company has five sites in Italy - Genoa, Milan, Montebello Vicentino, Monfalcone and Salerno - as well as an ample overseas presence in countries including the USA, France, Germany, Romania, Abu Dhabi, Russia, China and Japan) and that we have been able to create a truly European team with engineering effort being shared across all of our facilities. Our continued growth is a testimony to the innovation and extensive expertise at the heart of Nidec ASI, which serves some of the world's most prominent industrial companies on a daily basis."

Nidec ASI was renamed as such in 2012 when Nidec, a Japanese multinational corporation listed on the Japanese Stock Exchange, acquired Ansaldo Sistemi Industriali (ASI) SpA, an Italian-born multinational that can trace its roots back to 1853. The company is a provider of customized solutions for a range of industrial applications worldwide. Operating from offices in Italy, North America, France, Germany, Romania, the United Arab Emirates, Southeast Asia, Russia, China and Japan, its markets include petrochemical, energy, steel, marine, and industrial automation. Nidec ASI specializes in heavy-duty applications requiring high power and performance, including inverter and converter power electronics, industrial process control and automation, large electrical motors and generators.

As of early 2016, Nidec ASI has a portfolio of orders worth about 400 million Euro, with an installed base on more than four continents.
