Sensitive Data Discovery Critical to Data Security at PCI SSC European Community Meeting, Edinburgh 2016

EDINBURGH, Scotland, Oct. 26, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- As data security threats become more and more sophisticated, companies must become adept at protecting their sensitive data. In particular, European credit cards are valued on the black market at $25-30 per account, about six times higher than that of cards in North America.

Although most businesses in Europe are well aware of these growing cyber security risks, seven out of 10 companies have not taken the required steps to mitigate these risks and protect their sensitive customer and business data.

In response to this and to boost co-operation between security experts across the region, the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council (PCI SSC) convened the PCI Europe Community Meeting 2016 last week in Edinburgh, Scotland.

As part of its ongoing support for the Payment Card Industry, Ground Labs participated in the European Community meeting and provided live walk-through's of its flagship Enterprise Recon platform showing how sensitive data can be easily identified and managed within a typical network environment.

"With so many security breaches occurring across the region, data security is becoming increasingly important for organisations of all sizes," said John Cassidy/span>, Ground Labs Vice President of EMEA. "In Europe, the awareness of data security has risen dramatically with the eminence of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Compliance with the PCI DSS is another step in the right direction for GDPR readiness and general data security best practice."

"The foundation step towards establishing a secure posture and locking down all sensitive information is by discovering and understanding this data first. At Ground Labs, we remain 100% focused on empowering organisations to achieve complete visibility of all sensitive data and enabling Business-As-Usual security to be achieved as quickly and effectively as possible."

Underpinning this capability is Ground Labs' Enterprise Recon platform featuring an enhanced set of data discovery capabilities designed to help companies scan their entire network for over 100 different types of sensitive data, including credit card numbers and personal identification numbers used across 50 countries including those in the European Union.

The PCI SSC Europe Community Meeting 2016 was held from 18 - 20 October at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre in Edinburgh. Additional information about the PCI SSC Europe Community Meeting 2016 is available here.
