Skyhigh Networks and Box Partner for Cloud Data Governance at Scale

Skyhigh Networks, the leading cloud access security broker (CASB), today announced full support for Box's (News - Alert) security classification capabilities to enable data governance at scale for all Box customers worldwide. Now companies can use Skyhigh and security classification from Box to identify sensitive data, automatically classify them and enforce appropriate collaboration control policies, all without requiring any change in customer behavior.

According to research from Skyhigh Networks, more than 18 percent of files in Box contain sensitive data such as credit card numbers, social security numbers and health data. Companies are increasingly relying on Box as a secure collaboration platform for business critical functions. But with nearly 93 percent of organizations experiencing at least one insider threat each month, unauthorized sharing of sensitive data continues to put organizations at risk of data loss and compliance violations. With Skyhigh and Box Governance, customers can automatically implement their data governance policies at scale, thus maximizing IT's ability to monitor nearly 5 million total user actions per month.

"We moved work to Box to increase employee productivity, and naturally control over our sensitive data needed to follow," said Michael Roling, CISO at the State of Missouri. "Using Box and Skyhigh we can automatically classify sensitive data in the cloud and apply necessary policies, thereby reducing risk without burdening our IT team or business users."

With the integration, Skyhigh can implement data classification on documents uploaded to Box, as well as existing documents already in Box. Common use cases include:

  • An employee uploads a document with protected health information (PHI). The document is automatically classified and, per policy, it cannot be shared with employees lacking proper access privileges.
  • An on-demand audit of data in Box uncovers a document containing passwords is shared externally. The document is automatically classified and, per policy, the collaboration is removed.

"As Box Trust Partner of the Year, Skyhigh helps our joint customers address security and compliance challenges at scale," said Jon Fan, Sr. Director of Product Management at Box. "Skyhigh's integration with Box for security classification is a powerful solution that enables businesses to enforce granular policy decisions across thousands of users and millions of documents globally."

In addition to integration with Box for security classification, Skyhigh for Box provides comprehensive visibility, compliance, threat protection and data security capabilities. Skyhigh was awarded the Box Trust award at this year's BoxWorks conference, presented to the top security partner.

"Companies are flocking to Box not only for a powerful work tool, but for superior security," said Chris Cesio, VP of Business Development and Channel at Skyhigh Networks. "With Skyhigh and Box Governance, our joint customers can create a secure collaboration platform that the security and compliance teams love just as much as business users."
