Project V.O.T.E., a Texas Secretary of State's Office program to help educate students about the democratic process and become knowledgeable, responsible voters, is launching a new website and features in advance of the Nov. 8 general election, including a mock presidential election for young Texans.

Prject V.O.T.E (Voters of Tomorrow through Education) is a non-partisan program that offers students information on the voting process and opportunities to participate in elections, such as how to register to vote and how to serve as student election clerks at polling places.

"Project V.O.T.E. is a beneficial and unique resource and I'm excited that we have a new website that will allow us to reach even more young Texans," said Secretary of State Carlos H. Cascos. "We created this program with a goal of educating young people in Texas about the voting process."

This year's mock election will focus on encouraging students to participate in the democratic process. Students must be 13 years or older to participate. Students will have the opportunity to learn firsthand about the most fundamental right as U.S. citizen, the power of the vote.

Additional fun projects include puzzles and games, a do-it-yourself state seal and campaign, a state flag challenge and election bingo.

"We hope the learning will help educate young Texans about voting even before they are old enough to cast a ballot," Secretary Cascos said. "If we're going to create a culture of voting in Texas, we need to educate and encourage our students to participate."

The new site can be viewed at www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/projectvote.

In addition, all Texans can join the #VoteTexas conversation this election by following Vote Texas' Facebook, Twitter and Instagram social platforms. Voters with questions about voting in Texas can visit VoteTexas.gov or call 1-800-252-VOTE.
