Eaton Employees Help Address Issues That "Matter" - Local Hunger and Access to Medical Supplies

Today, nearly 60 volunteers from power management company Eaton helped increase global access to health care and local access to nutritious food by assembling MatterBoxes and medical supply kits for Matter, a Minneapolis-based nonprofit on a mission to expand access to health, next door and around the world.

Funding for this project, which was $27,700, came from a Powering our Communities Grant from the Eaton (News - Alert) Charitable Foundation and personal donations from members of Eaton's Industrial Sector Leadership Team. Building on Eaton's tradition of corporate citizenship, the company's "Powering Communities Grants" help Eaton employees make their communities stronger.

"It's not often that you hear about a global company, like Eaton, using not only their finances to give back but also engaging their employees to make an impact," said Quenton Marty, president, Matter. "We are excited to partner with Eaton volunteers to pack MATTERboxes to provide healthy meals locally and sort medical supplies, that will elevate health care in communities around the world."

MatterBoxes packed by the team today contain meals as well as educational materials on nutrition that will be distributed by police, local emergency rooms, and other community-based programs to people in need. In addition to the MatterBoxes, the team also sorted and built medical supply kits that will be sent to small community clinics and hospitals in developing countries where the presence of a clinic or hospital is life changing for the residents of the community.

"We take our brand promise, which is "we make what matters work," very seriously", said Uday Yadav, chief operating officer of Eaton's Industrial Sector. "This simple promise says a lot about the people behind Eaton and what we stand for. That we deliver on our promises. We solve challenging problems. We do things tht matter."

Yadav continued, "I am really proud of the work we are doing here today because this project will truly make a difference in the lives of so many people here in Minnesota and in communities around the world whose residents deserve access to medical care. This is one way we are turning our brand promise into action."

"HandsOn Twin (News - Alert) Cities has the unique opportunity of supporting both corporate volunteer groups and nonprofit organizations," said Tracy Nielsen, executive director, HandsOn Twin Cities. "By leveraging our network of 300+ nonprofit agencies, we are able to streamline connections and connect groups to the greatest needs in our community. We are excited that Eaton volunteers are able to focus their time and energy on serving Matter today, and our staff are here to maximize community impact, supporting both Matter and Eaton in one event!"
