The Oldest University in Spain, the University of Salamanca, Brings to South Florida Its First Spanish Language School in the United States

The University of Salamanca's prestigious Spanish Language School, ELE USAL, is proud to announce the opening of its first-ever campus in the United States, ELE USAL Florida, located at 8238 Wiles Road, Coral Springs in the Riverside Square Shopping Center. With eight fully operating language institutions worldwide, the Florida school will be the first to give ELE USAL presence in North America.

Immersion courses will be available for children and teenagers, and extensive or intensive courses will be available for adults. Students will be able to register for the school starting Monday, September 12th, and classes are scheduled to begin on Monday, October 3rd, 2016.

"We believe it's imperative that students are properly prepared for the future, starting today," said Rosane Santana, manager of ELE USAL Florida. "We see a great opportunity and need for specialized and high-quality Spanish-language education in the United States, and that is why we are bringing the ELE USAL program here, so that children are properly equipped to compete with their bilingual counterparts as they enter their professional working years."

The curriculum for students ages 5 to 15 will focus on the cultural and linguistic immersion following the Critical Age Theory, which is based on the premise that during childhood, language acquisition is a natural consequence of prolonged exposure to a language; therefore, any small child will acquire native fluency in any language if exposed to it on a consistent basis in a social setting.

The curriculum for teenagers and adults will offer specialized courses and programs that will help students have a dep comprehension of the language, as well as the culture and traditions of Spain and all of the Latin American countries. The programs and faculty focus on teaching, fostering and celebrating the Hispanic cultures and the diversity of the Spanish language of the South Florida population through academic curriculum and cultural events. The specialized faculty will provide individual support to ensure that each student maximizes their learning experience every step of the way.

The ELE USAL Florida curriculum and exams have been designed to cover a student's entire learning journey - from beginner to native proficiency, both oral and written - including the corresponding internationally accepted certifications. Below is a list of exams, official certificates and diplomas that can be obtained through the school's programs:

  • DELE certificates from Instituto Cervantes;
  • BULATS test for business, academic and professional purposes;
  • SIELE exam by the Servicio Internacional de EvaluaciĆ³n de la Lengua EspaƱola, which takes into account all of the linguistics variations from a Pan-Hispanic point of view;
  • CCSE exam for constitutional and sociocultural knowledge.

In addition, online courses for Spanish teachers, individualized programs for schools and companies, as well as academic preparation for the Personalized Student Learning Plan (PCI (News - Alert)) program by the University of Salamanca and other exchange programs from Hispanic universities will be offered as of 2017.

ELE USAL Florida has a comprehensive program for students of all backgrounds, whether the student is Hispanic or not. The school also accepts students from all levels of language proficiency. Upon course completion, students will earn an international certification from the University of Salamanca, which holds a high curricular value.

ELE USAL Florida is a direct response to the 2015 U.S. Census results, which found that the United States has the second highest Spanish-speaking population, reaching 52 million people (more so than Spain and Colombia, and only trailing behind Mexico), which is estimated to increase to 138 million Spanish speakers by 2050.
