Ascend Offers Continuing Education Classes to Its Team in Chocolate Bayou

Ascend Performance Materials will offer classes to hundreds of its team members at its Chocolate Bayou facility after a grant from the Texas Workforce Commission was awarded to Alvin Community College and Ascend.

The $331,697 grant from TWC's Skills Development Fund will be administered by ACC for Ascend team members, and classes will be held at the school's campus and on-site at the company's plant. More than 280 of Ascend's team members will receive 14,124 hours of training in operations leadership, maintenance leadership and engineering. The grant will fund 39 training courses and classes will begin the third week of August.

"We're in a globally competitive marketplace and we work with rapidly evolving technology," said Curt Thompson, learning and development leader at Ascend's Chocolate Bayou facility. "We know we must continue to invest in our team members to sustain ourselves as a business and this grant will help us further their growth. We're grateful for the support from the Texas Workforce Commission and the help from our friends at Alvin Community College."

This is the third Texas Workforce Commission grant since 2008 that has funded industrial education courses for Ascend's team members in Chocolate Bayou.
