Service Providers and Suppliers Join NG-PON2 Technology ForumREDWOOD CITY, Calif., July 28, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The newly established NG-PON2 Technology Forum announced today that several communications operators and vendors have joined its board of directors. Logo - http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20160727/393492LOGO Established in April of 2016 as a non-profit corporation, the NG-PON2 Forum is an interest group of service providers, equipment suppliers, component vendors and analysts working toward a common goal of promoting the adoption of NG-PON2 broadband technology, which connects people, devices and technologies throughout the world. Advanced fiber delivery mechanisms like NG-PON2 are the response to the accelerating demand for broadband services. Acknowledging this growth, the ITU recently approved the multi-wavelength aspect of the TWDM portion of NG-PON2 (ITU-T G.989 series), which dramatically increases the speeds and flexibility of NG-PON2 connections. The NG-PON2 Forum board of directors will continue to strive to create a broad market for carrier adoption of this technology, increasing the volume of deployments and reducing the costs for both consumer and enterprise customers. Board of Directors: Bernd Hesse – President and Founder Bernd Hesse brings more than 30 years of accomplishments in the international telecommunication market and is a veteran in telecommunication metro and broadband access markets. He currently holds the position as Team Lead Engagement Practices for Access, Mobile Backhaul and Transport Networks in Ericsson. Vincent O'Byrne – Director Dr. Vincent O'Byrne is Director of Technology at Verizon and has more than 28 years of experience in both the wireless and wireline arenas, covering diverse topics such as linearized external modulators for CATV systems and wireless planning tool design for early CDMA deployments. Vincent is Director of Verizon's FTTP Architecture and Design Group and his team is responsible for defining the access requirements for BPON, GPON and next-generation access technologies. He has more than 20 years of experience in the research and development of optical communication systems for metro and access applications at NTT and now works on requirements and technologies for next-generation access networks. Paulo Mão-Cheia -- Director Paulo Mão-Cheia is the head of Unit GPON, FTTx and QoS Probing at Altice Labs. He joined the Optical Communications Group of CET, the R&D Labs of the Portuguese incumbent operator in 1991. Since then he has worked in R&D for optical communications and is presently responsible for the Unit GPON, FTTx and QoS Probing. He is the delegate of Altice Labs in FSAN/ITU standard-related activities where he has contributed to PON standards development.
