Miraca Life Sciences Launches Easy Way to Complete GIQuIC Pathology Section

Working with a leading vendor of gastroenterology software, Miraca Life Sciences, the nation's largest independent anatomic pathology lab, now enables the pathology section of the GIQuIC form to populate automatically. Miraca Life Sciences' structured diagnosis data and smart electronic interfaces facilitate this easier process, which improves the current approach of using free-form text for pathology diagnoses.

Miraca Life Sciences has worked closely with gMed, a Modernizing Medicine company, to build an electronic interface that enables Miraca's diagnoses to flow directly into the patient chart within the gGastro electronic health record (EHR) system. Staff at gastroenterology practices and ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) who use both Miraca Life Sciences for GI anatomic pathology and gGastro will see the pathology section of the GIQuIC form complete automatically. Staff submitting PQRS data through GIQuIC will need only to enter each patient's follow-up interval.

"Miraca Life Sciences forms close partnershps with clinicians for both anatomic pathology as well as technology solutions," said Tom Zaves, Senior Vice President of Sales and Product Strategy for Miraca Life Sciences. "This new capability enables our clients to automate the entry of their pathology diagnoses."

What is GIQuIC?

The GI Quality Improvement Consortium, Ltd. (GIQuIC) is a non-profit collaboration of the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) and provides a quality benchmarking registry. Physicians participate by collecting and submitting colonoscopy data. Participation in GIQuIC enables practices and ASCs to participate in PQRS reporting in order to avoid penalties by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

Miraca Life Sciences provides fee-based consulting services to help clients understand their options for quality reporting and how to embed quality reporting into their practice or ASC (News - Alert). Quality reporting such as via GIQuIC is required for participation in the CMS programs Value-Based Modifiers and Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) as the industry moves toward a pay-for-performance model.
