Blackboard Announces New Mobile Student Planning ToolLAS VEGAS, July 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Blackboard Inc., the world's leading education technology company, today announced a new product toolset focused on student success – Bb Planner, a new mobile application aimed at making career and course planning simpler for students, and Blackboard Advise, a web-based tool to help advisors better guide their students. The announcement was made at BbWorld 2016, Blackboard's education conference focused on helping institutions meet the needs of learners, taking place July 12-14 in Las Vegas. Bb Planner is the first mobile student planning tool that enables students to explore degrees and careers that align to their goals and interests; understand the financial, academic and career implications of their decisions; schedule and register for classes; and access internships and jobs that align to their pathway choices. Through partnerships with Burning Glass Technologies and Roadtrip Nation, Bb Planner also provides students with rich labor demand information and thousands of on-demand videos from professionals. Designed to complement Bb Planner, Blackboard Advise is a web-based advising tool that combines insight into student plans, alongside predictive analytics to help advisors identify at-risk students. "Becase of the breadth and reach of our broad portfolio of products, Blackboard is uniquely positioned to understand the challenges thousands of higher education institutions are facing to meet the evolving needs of students," said Katie Blot, Senior Vice President of Global Strategy, Marketing and Business Line Management at Blackboard. "We have a responsibility to use this insight to help students succeed. BbPlanner and Blackboard Advise will change how institutions help students persist and graduate." More than a year ago, Blackboard entered into a partnership with Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC) to collaborate in the incubation of this student planning and advisement tool set. Bb Planner and Blackboard Advise were built hand-in-hand with NWTC through an agile and iterative development process that incorporated feedback from NWTC officials and students. "NWTC is committed to driving innovation in the areas of student persistence and success and we are excited to be on the forefront of driving change for our students and the industry with Blackboard," said Victoria Lock, Dean of Student Success at NWTC. "NWTC and Blackboard share a commitment to student success. A result of the partnership is that both institutions are better prepared to help students achieve their goals."
