Radisys Introduces TOTALeNodeB+ LTE-Advanced Small Cell Software

Radisys® Corporation (NASDAQ: RSYS), the services acceleration company, today introduced CellEngine™ TOTALeNodeB+™, the next-generation of its award-winning TOTALeNodeB™ LTE (News - Alert) small cell software. Based on 3GPP Releases 11 through 13, TOTALeNodeB+ delivers small cell software for mobile operators' 4.5G and 5G deployments. The software allows mobile operators to select and trial advanced features, such as carrier aggregation or LTE-Unlicensed functionality, that meet their specific deployment requirements. TOTALeNodeB+ is available today and being utilized in customer trials in China and other regions.

"We're focused on delivering to our mobile operator customers end-to-end solutions that integrate LTE's most advanced features such as LTE over unlicensed spectrum functionality," said Wei Bai, vice president, Marketing, Baicells. "Radisys is the leader in LTE small cell solutions and selecting its turnkey TOTALeNodeB+ software allowed us to quickly go to market with our LTE-U/LAA small cell."

"Small cells are a critical tool for mobile operators, but even as te technology matures, the product requirements are not getting any easier," says Gabriel Brown, senior analyst with Heavy Reading. "New capabilities such as LTE in unlicensed spectrum, coordination functions, mobile edge computing, and new LTE Advanced Pro features are now important, forcing vendors to maintain a fast pace of development."

Radisys' TOTALeNodeB+ supports the 3GPP LTE-Advanced roadmap with advanced features. The initial software release includes support for carrier aggregation and LTE-Unlicensed (Pre LTE-LAA) functionality, with plans to support LTE-License Assisted Access (LTE-LAA) inline with operator deployments. The next release of the software will add support for additional LTE-Advanced features, including Enhanced Inter-cell Interference Coordination (eICIC), LTE WiFi (News - Alert) Link Aggregation (LWA), Coordinated Multi-Point (CoMP), and enhanced Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (eMBMS) to deliver enhanced interference management and better performance at the edge of the network. TOTALeNodeB+ is platform independent with integrated support for all major SoCs, such as Intel (News - Alert) or Broadcom hardware, providing further customer choice.

"As the leaders in small cell software with more than 80 global small cell deployments under our belt, we understand intimately that no two deployments are alike," said Tom McQuade (News - Alert), vice president and general manager, CellEngine and Trillium Software. "Recognizing this, we designed TOTALeNodeB+ to provide mobile operators with a selective upgrade path to trial 3GPP's advanced new features one at a time to meet their requirements. If scarce spectrum is an issue, they can deploy our LTE-LAA functionality, or if bandwidth is an issue, they can deploy carrier aggregation techniques to aggregate existing 3G and 4G spectrum to add capacity to their network."
