WBUR, Boston's NPR News Station, Debuts BostonomiXWBUR, Boston's NPR (News - Alert) news station, today launched a new multi-platform, local journalism initiative called BostonomiX. Exploring the intersection of brains and business in Boston, WBUR's BostonomiX will chronicle the people, start-ups, companies and ideas that are driving the area's innovation economy and how it relates to Boston's long-standing corporate infrastructure. BostonomiX will also bring enterprise reporting to exposing and explaining the impacts of this knowledge-based economy, including the area's growing income inequality, increased real estate development, traffic and gentrification. "There's an innovation ecosystem thriving here in Boston - and Cambridge, Somerville, the 128-technology belt, really all around us - that is going to change and define our lives in the coming years," said Charlie Kravetz, General Manager, WBUR. This local newsroom team will expand WBUR's business coverage with an emphasis on stories related to innovation, technology, life sciences and entrepreneurship. BostonomX features news, commentary, analysis, profiles and in-depth interviews that will be heard regularly on WBUR programs including Morning Edition, Radio Boston and All Things Considered. In addition to airing on radio, BostonomiX can be found online at wbur.org with additional insights from expert contributors and multimedia including photos, maps and videos. Through the use of social media and engagement programs, BostonomiX will also be a gathering place for a liked-minded community. The editorial team, led by WBUR executive director of news content Richard Chacon, will include WBUR reporters Bruce Gellerman and Zeninjor Enwemeka with additional staff reporting from the WBUR Newsroom. Boston Globe columnist Scott Kirsner will be a regular BostonomiX contributor featured weekly on Radio Boston. BostonomiX will also form a diverse advisory board of thought leaders and entrepreneurs for editorial feedback and ideas. The debut series of BostonomiX, starting today on WBUR's Morning Edition (5 a.m. - 9 a.m.), will explore how the area's traffic and transportation woes are impacting the economy in a myriad of ways, and what new solutions and technologies are being deployed to rectify the problem. The premiere segment will feature a WBUR Poll, conducted by MassINC Polling Group for WBUR, that has found that 15% of residents are considering leaving the Boston area for a better quality of life specifically due to their commute time and traffic overall.
