Top Universities Pursue New Approach to Instructional Design

Instructional design firm iDesign, which pioneered the concept of unbundled online program management (OPM), today announced the addition of four new higher education institutions: Southern Methodist University, USC Marshall, the College of Engineering at Texas A&M University, and the University of Missouri.

"iDesign quickly became a trusted advisor because they genuinely understood the unique needs of our faculty and students," said Linda Eads, Associate Provost at Southern Methodist University. "Their top-notch instructional designers and learning architects were just as thoughtful about building the solution as they were about implementing it, and supporting our faculty to ensure continued success."

iDesign is addressing institutional demand for support in navigating an increasingly complex field of education technology products to design courses and degree programs that incorporate online, flipped, adaptive, blended and competency-based leaning. With an unbundled catalog of online program management services - from course design to market research to student recruitment - universities can enjoy a fee-for-service structure that encourages transparency and aligned incentives.

Through ongoing collaboration with faculty and staff, iDesign's approach is designed to disrupt a growing market for outsourced program management that, according to Eduventures, now serves an estimated "12% of the more than 2,800 Title IV-eligible degree-granting institutions in the United States."

"We are focused on building institutional capacity, and tapping into the collective genius of universities," said Paxton Riter, Chief Executive Officer of iDesign. "Our goal is to help partner institutions create learning experiences that make a difference and maximize their return on investment in technology."
