Mauli Ola Sweeps the Month of March with International Events and New Friends of the Foundation

The Mauli Ola Foundation (MOF) is on its 9th year in providing hope and confidence to individuals with cystic fibrosis and other genetic diseases by introducing surfing as a natural-based therapy. From the water to land, MOF hosts numerous events to educate the public on the healing power of the ocean.

March 10th, MOF partnered with the Ultimate Waterman to put on the first Surf Experience Day in New Zealand. Kala Alexander, Vice President of MOF, was accompanied by seven other elite waterman and 16 kids living with cystic fibrosis (CF) for their first Surf Experience Day on Orewa Beach in Auckland. The kids celebrated as they rode their first wave at The Ultimate Waterman winner Daniel Kereopa's Surf School. For CF patients, it is known that breathing in hypertonic saline (salty water) helps breakdown the congestion that lines the lungs. This process allows the release of the sticky mucus and inevitably makes breathing easier. The event was made successful with the help of The Ultimate Waterman Public Relations Manager, Sarah Rogan, and Billabong's generous wetsuit donations.

On Monday, March 14th, Mauli Ola Ambassador, Lisa Andersen, joined the MOF team to kick off the 3rd Annual Battle for the Breasts (B4TB) -- check out Lisa Andersen's live interview. This annual surf contest is a one-of-a-kind competition that will be featured on Surfline.com, where the world's top 16 women surfers compete to raise money for breast cancer. Each professional surfer is paired with a breast cancer clinic or foundation to compete on their behalf for $125,000 worth of genetic testing vouchers, presented by Ambry Genetics.

Andersen will take lead with this year's new partner, World Surf League, by empowering the top women surfers throughout the 8-month-long campaign. The surfer's personal invitation is being handed out this week during the Roxy Pro Gold Coast world tour event in Queensland, Australia.

While making their second appearance in Australia, the MOF team will be sharing another Surf Experience Day at Bells Beach in Victoria on March 24th. The crew is thrilled to share the stoke with 10 new CF participants and cannot wait to welcome them into the Ohana. MOF is completely honored to share waves outside of the mainland. Special thanks sent to MOF Ambassador, Nathan Hedge and Rip Curl for donating wetsuits, as well as Torquay Surf Academy for hosting the event.

Alongside surf events as well as raising awareness, Foo Fighters drummer and MOF friend Taylor Hawkins was featured on "Outlook," an Outside Television original production. Hawkins talked about his life transformed by outdoor activity and how to pay it forward by lending his skills to help foundations like Mauli Ola. Check out the short teaser of the "Outlook" premier that took place on March 13th at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT.
