Patton Technology Solves ROI Challenge of EMV Compliance for US Fuel Retailers

Against the backdrop of widespread failure among retailers to achieve compliance with EMV (chip-card) point-of-sale (POS) technology, Patton's CopperLink Ethernet Extenders offer fuel retailers an innovative solution that promises return on investment (ROI)

For gas station operators, converting to EMV technology requires replacing outmoded card-reader-in-dispenser (CRIND) equipment with new EMV-compliant payment terminals. But that's the easy part.

The deeper pain point for gasoline vendors is the expense, delay, and business disruption incurred by digging up pavement to install new cabling (CAT5e or CAT6) in order to deliver broadband Ethernet/IP connectivity from the station's convenience store to the EMV card readers in the gas pumps.

Patton's CopperLink Ethernet Extenders are designed to solve such Ethernet-connectivity challenges by delivering Ethernet over the previously-installed copper twisted-pair cabling already in the ground.

With a CopperLink device installed at the pump, and another in the back room of the sales kiosk or "quick-mart", Patton technology can deliver reliable Ethernet connections up to 5,000 feet over existing copper RS-232/RS-485 or dial-up network infrastructure. No digging, no inspections, no delays, no disrupted business operations.

An added benefit: Patton's CopperLink technology enables such exciting new forecourt applications as digital signage, streaming video, IP-video surveillance, phone or intercom communications-plus such cloud-enabled applications as remote-management and asset-tracking.

With CopperLink solutions delivering future-proof bandwidth that reaches the forecourt and beyond, retailers can invest their capital in profit-generating mechanisms that promote increased impulse sales: network-enabled fuel dispensers with video and audio, customer loyalty apps, suggestive selling, and advertising.
