eHarmony Says Millennials Are Looking for Love in the Right Places Too

Just in time for Valentine's Day, eHarmony is releasing new data that challenges assumptions about millennials and their desire for long term relationships. While it has come to be conventional wisdom that millennials are not interested in love and romance, in fact, the largest proportion of eHarmony users are millennials, with a millennial user base that has grown 5% over 10 years ago suggesting a trend toward long term relationships in that same period.

"Because eHarmony is renowned for its ability to match for long term relationships and marriage, understanding where our numbers are growing tells us something about the trends that are driving the numbers," said Dr. Neil Clark Warren, founder and CEO of eHarmony. "In this case, we can see that millennials might be a little bit misunderstood."

Mobile Dominates the Landscape

eHarmony also said they are seeing a huge transition from desktop to mobile with mobile now dominating the online dating landscape. eHarmony data in 2011 showed 81% of users coming through desktop and today, that figure has nearly reversed, with 66% of new users coming through mobile.

"The trend toward mobile is accelerating as more and more users replaced their deskto and now their laptops with the robust functionality that smartphones deliver," said Armen Avedissian, eHarmony President. "We stay well ahead of these trends, constantly streamlining the user experience so the eHarmony mobile experience delivers both the speed and quality our users are interested in. We were just named Most Innovative Company by the industry which is evidence of the success of our initiatives."

The Geography of Love

eHarmony also took a look at the areas with the highest numbers per capita of online daters. If you are looking for love, you might live in one the top five areas for eHarmony users.

  • District of Columbia
  • North Dakota
  • New York
  • Florida
