Uber, Slack and Samsung Stole the Show at TechCrunch's 9th Annual Crunchies Awards

Last night, tech's hottest startups, founders, engineers and venture capitalists vied for recognition as the best of best at the 2016 Crunchies Awards. Winners across 20 categories, including Fastest Rising Startup, Founder of the Year and Biggest Social Impact took home the coveted monkey statuettes of honor.

TechCrunch hosted the annual awards ceremony at the San Francisco War Memorial Opera House, honoring companies and individuals that made the biggest impression on their peers in the industry in 2015. Submissions came from readers around the globe, were whittled down by TechCrunch editors and then finalists were chosen by The Crunchies Board.

"The Crunchies, which feels a lot like The Oscars of the tech world, gives us a chance to celebrate some of the most innovative and creative minds and products in the industry," said Jordan Crook, Senior Writer for TechCrunch. "At the same time, it's a chance to have some laughs in a scene that can focus on high stakes and competition."

Hosted by comedian, actress and writer Chelsea Peretti of Fox's Brooklyn Nine-Nine, the show featured TechCrunch editors, writers and a few very special guests presenting awards to the honorees, and the celebration continued during the tech industry's favorite after-party.

"The rapid pace and developments in the industry can make it difficult to stop and recognize the work of our peers outside of our own day-to-day," said Matthew Panzarino, Editor in Chief of TechCrunch. "It's the annual event that makes this fast pace industry take a pause and realize all of the accomplishments to date, have a few laughs about the present and get excited about the future."

TechCrunch also introduced the Include Diversity Award this year. This award represents TechCrunch's larger initiative, Include, which seeks to reinforce how important we believe diversity is to the tech industry.
