ONUG Launches Initiative To Unveil the Future of Open Hybrid Cloud

The Open Networking User Group (ONUG) today announced the onset of its new Open Hybrid Cloud Working Group, organized to develop a framework for the adoption of open hybrid cloud products and services by large enterprises.

The recently launched working group emerged out of an invitation-only meeting at ONUG Fall 2015, during which executives openly discussed the concerns and opportunities they foresee when moving enterprise workload to the public cloud. Topics ranged from security, compliance, technical architecture, and required skill sets to the cultural challenges and management experienced by large enterprises during the transition to hybrid cloud. In response, the ONUG Open Hybrid Cloud Working Group was chartered to develop a peer-driven framework to include security, contract language and terms, skill sets, lock-in mitigation strategies, and technical architecture, all collectively aiding enterprise IT as it transitions to an open hybrid cloud model.

"A primary goal of our newest working group s to create a level playing field among the largest public cloud providers," said Nick Lippis, Co-Chairman and Co-Founder of ONUG. "ONUG hopes to create and share a framework that identifies a minimum set of common and collective requirements in order to benefit enterprise buyers and sellers of hybrid cloud services. We look forward to unveiling these much anticipated findings at our Spring Conference in May."

Participating companies within the exclusive working group include Cigna, Citigroup, Credit Suisse, FedEx, General Electric, Intuit (News - Alert), JPMorgan Chase, Morgan Stanley, UBS and Unilever. Comprised of high level IT executives, the working group will share framework recommendations during ONUG Spring, taking place at Intuit in Mountain View, California May 9th-11th. New framework recommendations will seek to identify a common set of open capabilities to be offered by cloud providers and, in the process, drive deeper and faster enterprise purchasing.
