Web testing continues to become increasingly complex, especially with the widespread use of Web Components and Shadow DOM in apps, as well as Chrome, Mozilla (News - Alert) and Edge blocking APIs. At the same time, Selenium has become the default standard for Web testing as evidenced by a 300 percent increase in job postings over the past three years. With all of these changes taking place at once, it becomes critical to understand how these changes are impacting the way Web and mobile applications are being built. And how will Selenium keep up with all these trends?

Nikhil Kaul and Dave Haeffner are covering Web testing trends in 2016, what these trends mean for Selenium, and how Selenium is accommodating these trends. Additionally, they are touching upon traditional challenges associated with Selenium, how to overcome these challenges while designing test cases, and what the future of Selenium looks like.

Dave Haeffner has helped numerous companies successfully implement automated acceptance testing, including The Motley Fool, ManTech International, Sittercity and Animoto. He authors Elemental Selenium, a free weekly Selenium tip newsletter read by thousands of testing professionals and is the author of The Selenium Guidebook, a guide on how to use Selenium successfully. He also created and maintains ChemistryKit, an open-source Selenium framework. He is a founder/co-organizer of the Selenium Hangout and is a frequent speaker at numerous conferences and meetups about automated acceptance testing.

Prior to SmartBear, Nikhil served Digité, a leading provider of Application Lifecycle Management solutions, in various roles including Senior Software Executive. There, he gained insights into software development and testing market. Nikhil received a master's degree in business administration from Georgetown University. He is very involved in discussions taking place in development and testing communities. His most recent thoughts can be found in Forbes and CIO.com.
