In accordance with its mission to create a more effective and innovative government, ACT-IAC embarked upon a national ideation initiative to solicit ideas from across the country regarding ways the government could improve its cybersecurity posture.  The questions were drafted after consultation with senior government officials as to the types of recommendations that would be most useful.  Ideas were solicited from industry, government, academia, and individuals to address a broad range of policy, technical, operational, and managerial cbersecurity issues. In August and September, an open public platform and process was established for people to submit their ideas and vote on ideas submitted by others. Additional ideas were solicited from ACT-IAC government and industry members at several brainstorming sessions.

Over 120 ideas were submitted as a result of this project.  The ideas submitted were evaluated by teams of ACT-IAC member volunteer subject matter experts who developed the report based on that information.

The final report was provided to Federal Chief Information Officer Tony Scott.  ACT-IAC Executive Director Kenneth Allen stated that "this report provides an excellent example of the unique value that ACT-IAC – a partnership of government and industry executives – provides.  We hope that the Federal CIO and Federal CIO Council find the report and the ideas it contains useful in framing sound cybersecurity policies and processes for the government."  ACT-IAC is now discussing ideas for future initiatives based upon the information contained in this report to further strengthen government cybersecurity programs focused on the cyber workforce, acquisition, incident response, and risk management.
