Amphenol Industrial Enhances Standard Shell Plating on Connectors for Better Resistance to Harsh Environments

SIDNEY, N.Y., Jan. 14, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Amphenol Industrial Products Group, a global leader in interconnect systems, has enhanced its standard shell plating from standard cadmium to gray zinc over electroless nickel (Gray ZnNi) to be used in the harshest environments.  Initially designed for use in marine applications, this plating is now used in military and industrial applications or where RoHS-compliant plating is required.

Amphenol's Gray ZnNi offers high corrosion resistance and no significant galvanic reaction when mated with leading standard market plating options.  This light gun metal gray plating is cadmium-free.

Mark Cunningham, general manager, Amphenol Industrial said, "Standard cadmium plating can only sustain 96 hours of salt spray and is not RoHS-compliant.  Electroless nickel and zinc cobalt can only reach 48 and 96 hours.  But, our new Gray ZnNi is rated for 500 hours of salt spray and is RoHS-compliant."

Compatible with market standard plating options, Gray ZnNi is non-magnetic so it can be used safely in magnetic environments in conjunction with a connector shell that is also non-magnetic.  It has an operating temperature range of -65 degrees C to 200 degrees C.

Technical Specifications

  • RoHS-compliant
  • 500 hour salt spray rating
  • Compatible with market standard plating options
  • Non-magnetic
  • Operating temperature range of -65 degrees C to 200 degrees C

Our AC Threaded, PT, and GT product lines are currently available in Gray ZnNi plating through our distribution partners Mouser Electronics and PEI-Genesis.
