Two Chances to Hear Joe Paduda in Vegas

Health Strategy Associates Principal Joseph Paduda will take the stage twice during the National Workers' Compensation and Disability Conference & Expo. The conference will be held November 11-13 at Las Vegas' Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.

A nationally recognized expert on workers' compensation and the author of the popular ManagedCareMatters blog, Paduda will participate on a special evening panel highlighting the impact of social media on the workplace. The tale of the abrupt firing of SAIF CEO John Plotkin and the tremendous outpouring of social media support he received is its centerpiece.

"Social media in comp goes far beyond claimant surveillance," Paduda said. "It is a platform for exposing wrong doing and spurring positive change."

He cited numerous posts about Plotkn's experience written by fellow panelist Robert Wilson of workerscompensation.com and author of From Bob's Cluttered Desk blog. "Perhaps more powerful than Bob's stories were the multitude of comments they garnered from SAIF employees," Paduda added.

Plotkin will join Wilson and Paduda for this lively panel discussion, moderated by ISG CEO Bob Reardon. It will take place during an ISG-sponsored reception at 5:30 p.m. on November 11. Space is limited and RSVPs are required; to register, go to http://isgvalue.com/event-registration.

Scathing ProPublica/NPR (News - Alert) stories on the work comp industry, states considering opt-out provisions, and egregious medical/pharmaceutical cost drivers are a few of the topics scheduled for the "Perspectives from the Industry's Favorite Bloggers" session on November 12 at 3:30 p.m. Paduda will help attendees understand how these events affect their businesses. Moderated by Safety National's Mark Walls, the panel also features Wilson, David DePaolo of DePaolo's Work Comp World, and Rebecca Shafer of ReduceYourWorkersComp.com.

Paduda is an authority on medical management with deep experience in pharmacy services in workers' compensation. In addition to consulting with managed care organizations, employers, health care providers, private equity firms, and insurers, he regularly conducts surveys of workers' comp payers on managing work comp pharmacy costs, opioid use, bill review system, and claims systems.
