Tripwire Announces Internet of Things Roadshow at SecTor 2015Tripwire, Inc., a leading global provider of advanced threat, security and compliance solutions, today announced the first Tripwire (News - Alert) Internet of Things (IoT) Roadshow. Presented by Tripwire's Vulnerability and Exposure Research Team (VERT), the roadshow will premiere at SecTor 2015, offering attendees a hands-on opportunity to test the security of popular IoT devices. The roadshow will take place October 20-21, 2015, at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto, Ontario. As IoT devices become more pervasive, it's imperative for security professionals to understand and anticipate new threats associated with them. The Tripwire VERT IoT Roadshow provides attendees a hands-on opportunity to test and probe the security of common IoT devices. VERT researchers will also be available to provide tools and expertise. In addition, they'll offer presentations on a range of IoT security topics, including how to expose flaws in the security of smart homes and the impact of IoT devices in the industrial sector. "Generation Z may be the last generation to know the general purpose computer, as we'll soon find ourselves surrounded by a plethora of connected devices built for specific purposes," said Tyler Reguly, manager of security research at Tripwire. "IoT devices today are just as insecure in their infancy as the Internet was in its beginning. Attackers are smart, and their techniques are well established. If current IoT trends don't change, we're in for a bumpy ride, and the last ting we need is two decades of insecure IoT devices. Tools featured in VERT's IoT Roadshow include: IoT devices have become increasingly commonplace in homes and businesses around the world; research firm IDC anticipates there will be over 28 billion IoT devices installed by 2020. Despite their popularity, IoT devices present significant security risks. According to a recent Tripwire survey, 63 percent of C-level executives expect business efficiencies and productivity to force them to adopt IoT devices regardless of those risks. "As the industry races to squeeze more features into smaller and cheaper devices, there's been a huge resurgence of vulnerability classes that should have been obliterated years ago," said Craig Young, security researcher at Tripwire and winner of DEF CON 22s SOHOpelessly Broken router hacking contest. "SSL failures, stack overflows, root command injection and authentication bypass flaws are everywhere on embedded devices. Security practitioners and product developers need to establish solid testing methodologies to identify weaknesses and get on top of this growing problem."
