Extension Healthcare and Saint Joseph Hospital to Participate in AAMI Foundation Alarm Management Safety EventExtension Healthcare, a platinum sponsor of the AAMI Foundation/Healthcare Technology Safety Institute (HTSI) National Coalition for Alarm Management, announces its participation in the upcoming Boston-based event focusing on alarm management safety, infusion therapy safety, and continuous monitoring of patients on opioids. During the workshop, Extension customer, Saint Joseph Hospital, will present ideas for clinical alarm improvement and improved care team collaboration. A Clinical Informatics (News - Alert) Specialist from Saint Joseph Hospital, the largest private teaching hospital in Denver and part of SCL Health, will discuss results from a recent joint Extension-Saint Joseph clinical study in which nursing interruptions were the primary focus. The extensive research project has helped Saint Joseph identify various sources of nursing interruptions including the obvious alarms generated by regulated medical devices and alerts from other non-regulated clinical systems such as the nurse call system as well as the more obscure interruption events such as hallway conversations, physician calls, and the patients' families. Saint Joseph will discuss the impact of interruptions on clinical workflows and will share best practices for reducing nursing interruption fatigue and improving care coordination by using Extension Engage™.
