Mark Pew SVP of Prium to Speak at CAJPA

PRIUM's Senior Vice President Mark Pew (News - Alert) will participate in a panel discussion of the implications of a California's workers' compensation pharmacy formulary at the California Association of Joint Power Authority's 2015 Annual Conference.

Pew, who has served as a technical advisor since December 2013 to the Director and Administration as it considered a formulary, will share the podium with Rupa Das, MD, MPH, executive medical director of California's Division of Workers' Compensation. Lori Kammerer, who has represented businesses and business trade associations on work comp issues for over 25 years, will be the panel's moderator.

"The primary goal of a pharmacy formulary in California is to improve appropriate care through the dispensing of evidenced-based medicine and expedite pharmaceutical treatment for ill and injured workers," Pew said. "If prescribing and dispensing behavior change as they did in other states, not only should there be better treatment for injured workers but also a cost savings to the system."

This panel is extremely timely given that Assembly member Henry Perea's AB 1124 was approved by the Senate on September 11 and now awaits the signature of Governor Brown. Pew and Dr. Das will address guiding principles for a formulary and how they can be achieved by the rules that will be developed oer the next few months based on the final law's guidance.

The session takes place Sept. 17 at 3:45 p.m. Formed to meet the need for communication and cooperation among JPAs, CAJPA will hold its annual meeting September 15 through 18 at Lake Tahoe Resort, Harrah's and Harvey's in Lake Tahoe, Calif.
