Goodwin Procter Expands Financial Institutions Group with Addition of Michael Flynn in Washington, D.C.


Goodwin Procter, a leading Am Law 50 and Global 50 law firm, announced today that Michael Flynn has joined the firm as a partner in its Financial Institutions Group in Washington, D.C. Flynn comes to Goodwin from Flagstar Bancorp, where he served as Chief Legal Officer, General Counsel and Executive Vice President.

Flynn has more than 25 years' experience in the financial services industry, with particular expertise in the consumer financial services market. He has held senior leadership and management roles for public and private banking entities, as well as for law firms and federal regulatory agencies, including service as Acting General Counsel for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

At Goodwin, Flynn will focus his practice on mortgage and other consumer financial services, including compliance and legal operational issues, secondary market and other transactions, and regulatory enforcement. He will work on matters related to federal and state consumer protection laws (including TILA, RESPA, FACTA/FCRA and FDCPA), FHA and GSE issues, as well as matters involving fair lending and community reinvestment, and practice before federal and state regulatory agencies, including the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.

Prior to his tenure at Flagstar, Flynn was General Counsel of PNC (News - Alert) Mortgage, the mortgage division of PNC Bank. From 2007 to 2009, he served as Deputy General Counsel and then Acting General Counsel for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), while simultaneously serving as counselor to the board of directors of HUD's Hope for Homeowners program. He has also held executive positions at World Savings Bank and Chicago Title Insurance Company.


Flynn received his J.D. from Duke University School of Law and his B.A. from Indiana University (News - Alert).
