Xavier Thévenard Wins the UTMB 2015

CamelBak®, the global leader in personal hydration, is excited to announce that its sponsored athlete, Xavier Thévenard (Team ASICS Trail), has won the most difficult and illustrious Ultra Trail race in the world, the Ultra Trail du Mont-Blanc. Thévenard won the race while wearing the CamelBak Marathoner Vest as his preferred system for carrying gear and hydration.

Xavier finished the grueling 170 km course through Chamonix with a time of 21 hours and 9 minutes to take the victory. Thévenard lead for the majority of the race, but pulled away from the closest competition at the 7 hour mark.

"The competition started at a very high speed, from the very beginning," said Thévenard, after the race. "But I focused on my own pace and on my own tempo." This tactic proved to be a winning one, as well as switching his front light off when running uphill to the Col de Seigne so that, in the dark night, he wasn't visible to the pursuers.

The toughest moment came with the daylight: the very high temperatures influenced Xavier's performance and obliged him to slow down a bit and drink a lot. "He hates the hot weather," said Cathy Ardito, who was in charge at his feeding points. "Our nutritionist has carefully planned Xavier's hydration correctly for these temperatures."

CamelBak MarathonerTM assisted Thévenard during the high temperatures and steep inclines. This vest, which is the choice of many top trail runners in the world, is the perfect solution in such hard races. Very light to wear and it keeps runners hydrated thanks to the 2L Antidote reservoir. Compartments on the shoulder harnesses allow access to essentials without slowing down runners. Everything is at hand: a stretch-mesh envelope pocket for gels and storage for two extra water bottles. The vest fits comfortably without bumping around due to the dual sternum straps and the top strap elastic. The adjustable harness and drawstring compartments allow you to cinch down both the vest and reservoir as the load gets lighter, to eliminate a sloshing vest at the end of a run.

This marks the second UTMB race victory for Thévenard, who completed a record-setting Triple Crown (UTMB/TDS/OCC) win o the top UTMB series races in 2014. Thévenard is the youngest winner ever of the UTMB and the only runner to have ever achieved not only the Triple Crown, but a record-shattering time on his first attempt at completing the race.

"We are proud to sponsor Xavier and watch his incredible success," said Kimberly Rogers, CamelBak International Marketing Manager. "We also congratulate Caroline Grangier from Team Sigvaris who placed third in the OCC, Nicholas Martin (Sigvaris Team) who placed third in the CCC, and Germaine Grangier (Team Garmin (News - Alert)) who placed third in OCC. All of these athletes choose to run with our Marathoner Vest."
