TestPlant Granted Three New UK Patents

LONDON, September 1, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --

Company innovates to strengthen testing capabilities in agile and mobile software development

TestPlant, the maker of the eggPlant range of software quality tools, today announced that it has been granted three new patents by the Intellectual Property Office of the United Kingdom. The patents relate to TestPlant's innovative, image-based approach to automating testing of software applications.

The three patents, which have also been filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, are:

  • Scaled image search, which allows eggPlant to test an application on different screen sizes, colors or rotations, without requiring new scripts to be created. This is highly relevant in today's highly fragmented technology environments, particularly when it comes to testing mobile apps, which have to be run on devices with widely varying screen sizes and resolutions and often requires extensive work by test teams to account for such variations.
  • Retrain mode, which allows eggPlant to "retrain" itself when the testing environment changes. This is particularly well-suited to testing in agile development, when frequently changing web environments are a common occurrence.
  • Auto detect delay, which automatically detects and compensates for the delay between an operation and the causal rsult, such as when clicking an action and receiving a response message on-screen. In test automation, these delays can often result in false alerts, which take time. This feature saves test teams time by ensuring that scripts are robust and error-free.

"These patents keep TestPlant at the forefront of innovation in the software quality market, and help set the eggPlant products apart when it comes to testing in agile and mobile environments," said Antony Edwards, CTO, TestPlant. "Businesses are under pressure to reduce the time-to-market of their software applications and this has led to the rise of agile development, but the increasing fragmentation of devices and platforms presents a significant challenge. These patents allow eggPlant to provide significant efficiencies when testing software in today's highly fragmented technology landscape."

TestPlant produces the eggPlant range of software quality tools, which tests and monitors the delivery of software applications on any device, as well as across data centers and networks. The company has seen rapid international adoption of its software testing products. TestPlant's products are used by hundreds of enterprise customers across the United States, Europe, China and Japan, and support customers in sectors ranging from financial services, telecoms, retail and healthcare to automotive, travel and media.
