  • AIA CES Course - AIA continuing education system presentation on the benefits of daylight and fresh air in residential design. The one hour presentation focuses on daylighting and top lighting benefits, fresh air and natural ventilation benefits provided by skylights and vertical windows, thermal comfort standards and measures related to natural ventilation, and energy efficiency associated with skylights from both a lighting and natural ventilation standpoint as they relate to cooling and heating loads. • Daylight, Energy and Indoor Climate Basic Book - This 278 page volume, available from VELUX America upon request, shares insight and knowledge by giving advice and documntation on the effects and benefits of VELUX products in buildings. Topics covered include: daylight, ventilation, thermal comfort, acoustics, energy, and environment.
  • VELUX Daylight Visualizer – A professional simulation tool for the analysis of daylight conditions in buildings. This tool aids professionals by predicting and documenting daylight levels and appearance of a space prior to realization of the building design. It differs from commonly used CAD programs by permitting the accurate simulation and quantification of daylight levels in interiors. Tutorials, a descriptive brochure, a validation study, and Version 2.8.0 is available for free download at http://viz.velux.com.
  • A Study of the Energy Impacts of Residential Skylights in Different Climates – Homes that depend more on skylights in combination with vertical windows to provide adequate levels of daylight tend to be more energy efficient, according to a study commissioned by VELUX America. Prepared by Group14 Engineering, the study used computer models based on a one-story, open plan, single-family home modeled under code-compliant conditions of California's Title 24 regulations. Group14 Engineering (www.group14eng.com) is based in Denver, Colorado. The company specializes in energy modeling, daylighting and LEED strategy for architectural firms and building owners nationwide. The study is available from VELUX America upon request.
  • A Study of Venting Skylights in Homes in Boston, Massachusetts – This VELUX America commissioned study documents that adding venting skylights will result in energy cost savings compared to a home without skylights. Group14 Engineering performed the 2014 study. The study, available from VELUX America upon request, analyzes the energy cost, indoor air quality and thermal comfort impacts of VELUX venting skylights and compares them with those of whole house fans in residential homes. This study, like the earlier Group14 study on the energy impacts of residential skylights in different climates, provides additional empirical evidence that natural light and passive ventilation from skylights can contribute to the home's overall energy efficiency.
  • VELUX Demonstration Buildings – The Active House concept is based on the idea that comfortable and healthy living conditions are compatible with sustainable and energy efficient construction. The First Active House in the USA is chronicled in a comprehensive brochure and additional information on this and other projects of this nature is found at www.veluxusa.com.
